04 Sep Ebbing and Flowing-Life and times from inside the chiropractic ropes
I love chiropractic. I wonder how many people really love the career that they are involved in? Without a doubt if you set out to be a chiropractor yet didn't love it, you couldn't survive, as it is faced with incredible challenges, yet huge rewards being part of the profession.
So what are the biggest challenges of being a chiropractor? Well, for me it is definitely the prejudice that so many people seem to have when it comes to chiropractic. I'm not really sure how life is for insurance brokers, car salesmen, lawyers, real estate agents and bankers but I suspect many within these careers would experience similar prejudice.
The intriguing aspect is that the main topics that create some of the negative views about chiropractic are in fact the aspects that make the most sense to me as a person who has been involved with the profession for 28 years. I will elaborate on a few of these points and add my perspective.
There are reports that people should plan for 5 careers in a lifetime. Not 5 job changes in the same industry, but 5 complete career changes. I am so glad to have found my calling almost by accident at a young age. I will never shut my mind to a new career path one day, but even if that did eventuate, I would always provide chiropractic care on top of whatever new path may eventuate. After all, it only requires a set of hands and a bench.
